What is the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System and how does it work?
The LoJack® product is a battery operated, stolen vehicle recovery system that helps law enforcement to track and recover your stolen vehicle. A LoJack® Unit is hidden in your vehicle by a certified technician and your vehicle is registered in the LoJack database. When you file a stolen vehicle report with law enforcement and the theft is recorded in the national stolen vehicle database, law enforcement computers send a silent radio signal to your car. If your vehicle is within a LoJack coverage area, the LoJack Transceiver in your stolen vehicle can be automatically activated, allowing law enforcement to track and recover your vehicle.
Your LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is always in receiving mode, ready to be activated by a silent signal from law enforcement computers. Please refer to the Recommended and Required Maintenance Sections in the Owner’s Manual for more information.
Your LoJack® Unit is tested and certified at the time of installation. We then recommend an inspection of your LoJack® System every two years. Inspections cost $99* and can be arranged by calling 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225). Please refer to the Recommended and Required Maintenance Sections in the Owner’s Manual for more information.
What do I do if I believe my LoJack® System requires service?
Call us at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225) to schedule an inspection of your LoJack® Unit or to talk to a Customer Service Representative who can answer any questions you may have. For faster service, please make sure you have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the time of the call. Your VIN number is located on your LoJack I.D. card or on your vehicle registration.
If your vehicle is stolen, report the theft immediately to law enforcement in the city or town where it was stolen. Once you’ve completed a stolen vehicle report, law enforcement can automatically activate the LoJack® Unit in your vehicle (LoJack® Unit activation is contingent on vehicle being located within a LoJack coverage area). After you contact law enforcement, you may call a LoJack Customer Service Representative at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225) to notify us of the theft.
If you purchased an Extended Limited Warranty and you need to file a claim, please call 1-800-4-LoJack (1-800-456-5225).
If you purchased a Protection Plus 5000 or a Motorcycle Recovery Plus 5000, and your vehicle was stolen and not recovered within 30 days, or recovered but deemed a total loss, please refer to your original policy for the appropriate contact information of your administrator. If you do not have your original paperwork, please call 1-800-4-LoJack (1-800-456-5225) and a LoJack Customer Service Representative can assist you further.
What should I do if my vehicle is involved in an accident?
If your vehicle sustains damage as a result of an accident, you should call us at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225) to schedule an inspection of your LoJack® System. This inspection is required in order to maintain your warranty coverage and to ensure your LoJack® System is in working condition. Please refer to the Recommended and Required Maintenance Sections in the Owner’s Manual for more information.
What happens when I sell my vehicle? Can I transfer my LoJack® System to my new vehicle?
Your LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is not transferable from one vehicle to another as the serial number on your LoJack® Unit is registered to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your vehicle. However, a LoJack® System may enhance your vehicle’s resale value.
How do I get my proof of installation form for my insurance company?
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System may save you money on your comprehensive insurance premiums. For more information on eligibility, talk to your insurance agent. Register with LoJack at my.lojack.com or by calling 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225). Upon confirmation of your LoJack registration, a proof of installation form for your insurance company will be made available to you via PDF download or US mail. Please allow up to three weeks for processing and delivery.
Can car thieves find my LoJack® Unit and beat the system?
The LoJack® Unit is very small—about the size of a deck of cards—so it can be hidden in as many as 20 different places in your vehicle. This makes it very difficult for thieves to find your LoJack® System.
Why is there no exterior marking on the vehicle stating it has a LoJack® System – wouldn’t a LoJack® sticker act as a theft deterrent?
One of the major benefits of the product is that the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is covert. A thief does not know whether or not your vehicle is equipped with a LoJack® System. This increases the likelihood of rapid recovery with minimal damage.
The LoJack® System is very easy to use. If your vehicle is stolen, report the theft immediately to law enforcement in the city or town where it was stolen. Law enforcement can automatically activate the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System in your vehicle (LoJack® Unit activation is contingent on vehicle being located within a LoJack coverage area). After you contact law enforcement, you may contact a LoJack Customer Service Representative at 1-800-4-LOJACK (800-456-5225) to notify them of the theft.
How is the LoJack® Product different from other systems?
LoJack® offers the only Stolen Vehicle Recovery System directly integrated with federal, state and local law enforcement. It is based on wireless Radio Frequency technology. From ground or air, law enforcement can track the silent signal from your LoJack® Unit whether it is in a garage, an underground parking facility, or in a warehouse. This differs from most GPS-based tracking systems, which require direct line-of-sight to their satellites.
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is not an alarm system. Alarms can be disabled quickly by an experienced thief, reducing their effectiveness. They also do not provide a way for your stolen vehicle to be tracked and recovered.
LoJack Products include the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, which helps law enforcement track and recover your vehicle after you report it stolen, and the LoJack Early Warning® System, which is an additional layer of protection on top of the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System. Early Warning contacts you if your car has been moved without your Key Pass present (subject to vehicle being in LoJack coverage areas; please see here for details)
Many insurance companies offer a discount to LoJack customers. In fact, some insurance companies offer significant savings off the comprehensive portion of your insurance premium for equipping your vehicle with a LoJack® System and an alarm. Call your insurance agent to see if you qualify for a discount.
The one-time cost for a LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System has an MSRP of $695. A LoJack® System with Early Warning, which notifies you if your car is moved without your Key Pass present, has an MSRP of $995.
I am receiving false LoJack Early Warning™ calls, how can I address the issue?
A common cause of false LoJack Early Warning™ calls is a low battery in your Key Pass. The battery required for your Key Pass is a Lithium watch battery, size 2032. You can purchase this battery at many general retail outlets. To replace the battery:
Open the Key Pass by inserting a dime or penny into the indentation on the side and twisting gently. You may need to unscrew the Key Pass first depending on what model you have
Slide the old battery out using a non-metal object or using your fingers
Insert the new battery ensuring that the plus sign is facing upward
The LED light on the opposite side should rapidly flash 6-8 times, indicating that power is sufficient for operation
Once the battery is replaced, drive your vehicle with the Key Pass for at least 5 minutes to reset the system
If you continue to receive calls, you may need to listen to the full message so that the system registers successful delivery of the message

How can I make LoJack Early Warning alert calls stop?
If you receive alert messages, please listen to the entire message before hanging up. By doing this, the system will register the message as successfully delivered and should stop sending alerts.
If you wish to discontinue the alerts immediately, you may remove the batteries from your Key Passes and wait for a period of 8 hours. After 8 hours, the system will go into sleep mode and alerts will be terminated.
If you continue to experience alerts and have listened to the full message, and you have also replaced the batteries in your Key Passes, please contact Customer Service for troubleshooting and resolution.
Your Key Passes were tested at the time of installation. Riding without your Key Pass should result in an Early Warning notification. If your battery runs low the LED light on your Key Pass will flash indicating replacement is required.
IMPORTANT: If your system has not been working because you are waiting for a replacement Key Pass, you will need to re-introduce the Key Pass to the system. Upon inserting the battery in your new Key Pass, the LED will flash rapidly. Drive your vehicle with the Key Pass for 5 minutes or more to initialize the Key Pass to the system.
How many Key Passes come with my LoJack Early Warning™ System?
The LoJack Early Warning™ Recovery System for your automobile includes the LoJack® System, an Early Warning motion sensor and two uniquely coded Early Warning Key Passes. If you are a Motorcycle owner, you will receive one rugged Key Pass designed for rugged riding environments.
What kind of maintenance is recommended for the LoJack Early Warning™ Key Pass?
To ensure optimum performance, the batteries in the Early Warning Key Passes should be changed every 6 months to 1 year depending on the model. To avoid damage, the automobile Key Pass should not be exposed to water or dropped. However, the motorcycle Key Pass is designed for harsh environments and can withstand wet weather conditions.
If you've had your vehicle stolen, and need to activate a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, please contact your local law enforcement to report it stolen. The LoJack System is directly integrated with law enforcement computers, and this is the only way to activate the LoJack System.
